So what is this “blog factor”? Well, what a few thought was a novel idea some years ago has now morphed into something no one expected. There are currently nine million blogs out there with 40,000 new ones being added everyday. Some are informative and some are just downright a waste of your time. And while we hear a lot about blogging these days, what is blogging *really*? Blogging in its simplest term is like an online journal but much, much more powerful. Blogs (short for Web log) is a place where surfers can get up to the minute information on a topic or voyeur into someone’s life. Some blogs are nothing more than a daily glimpse into someone’s life, while others are so sophisticated, it’s hard to tell them apart from an online news service.
Why Blogs Matter
Google, the #1 search engine on the net, loves blogs. So much so that if you do it right Google will spider the heck out of your site. What does it mean to “spider”? Well spidering is when Google, or the like, searches your sites content to establish ranking, the more content you have (i.e. fresh content) the more Google will do its magic and push your site up the search engine. Another reason blogs matter is that they are interactive and, if you blog on your books topic, it will help to further your expert status on a particular issue. When we plan “Virtual Tours” for our authors, we include as many blogs as we can into a tour. Why? Because if you can get into a good blog that’s seeing a lot of traffic, you can really start to gain some exposure for your book.

What Would You Talk About?
This is the question we get asked most often. “If I start a blog, what on earth would I talk about?” Well if your book is non-fiction it’s pretty easy to figure out what your topic would be, but if your book is fiction it could get a bit tricky – but not impossible. An author I work with has a series of books starring one character – a private detective. I recommended that he “blog” this character, meaning that the character (not the author) would have the blog. It could be the character’s diary or adventures and stories – a glimpse into the life of a private detective. This would give the reader (and fans of this character) a reason to return to the blog for an update on this ongoing adventure or story. In another instance, I work with an author who wrote a fiction book about right and wrong with a new age/spirituality spin. I advised him to blog on issues related to that – right and wrong in our society and his own personal “spin” on these issues. Some of his blogs might be controversial but that’s okay, you want to create your own “voice,” your own take on a certain issue and if that opinion is controversial, all the better for exposure and for getting people to interact on your blog. Getting readers to respond to your posts is a great way to gain interest and momentum for your blog and (more importantly) getting people to talk about it will grow your blog like nothing else!
How to Start a Blog
Starting a blog is super easy. All you have to do is register at a blog site (like www.blogger.com) and get started. It’s that easy. The blog service will link to your site; you’ll need to ask your Webmaster to add a button to your home page so people can find your blog.
How to Blog Effectively
The best bloggers know that the more you add to your blog, the more traffic you’ll drive there. Some bloggers I know post daily, sometimes even multiple times a day while others post weekly. How much you post will probably depend on how much time you have to dedicate to this, the challenge will be that if you want to keep driving people to your blog, you’ll want fresh content. This doesn’t mean you have to create this all yourself, in fact you can invite people onto your blog and interview them, or you can just post a one paragraph “thought” on your topic. It doesn’t have to be complicated or long, it just has to be fresh. Also be innovative, as we discussed earlier, be different with your blog, have fun with it. It might seem complicated at first but once you get the hang of it, you’ll quickly become a blog expert!

The power of blogging.

The power of blogging. by Tristan Jud

First and formost what is a Blog? A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.”

The growth of blog usage over the last year has been incrediable. Blog readership increased from 17% of internet users to 27% in just 9 months. The number of blog authors has increased from 3% in July 2002, 5% at the beginning of 2004, and 7% by late November 2004.

A quick search on the net for blogs and you find that not only are the general public using them as a way of electronically noteing their feelings and thoughts but also businesses are using them as an informal way of updating their clients of products and services.

It seems that when it comes to blogging big businesses and small businesses are on the same playing field. A blog offers any business the opportunity to communicate with employees, and customers, sharing knowledge and expertise.

As you may or may not have realised is that blogging is a big plus and if used correctly can provide an interesting and effective way to increase brand identity and awareness.

My personal web design company (Able Net Design) has seen an increase in interest of blogs and its use with our own customers. It seems that everyone is jumping on this new system, as a cheap and effective way to spread the word.

A quick google search for the term “business blogging” returns 11,200,000 results. There are even companies poping up everywhere as blog consultants, which can help set up a blog that you will get the most out of.

Is blogging really as good as everyone thinks, well i am certainly having some fun with it and am sure if it didn’t work it would have died by now.

But what are people blogging about? Well people are blogging about everything and anything and there are some reports that people are making a nice little income from it aswell.

Income off a blog how can that be? That is the same question i asked when i first heard about it. I would have thought that the process to making money of a blog would have been quite involved however I have discovered that it is quite the opposite.

It seems that with the use of strategicly placed advertisements and a large amount of traffic bloggers are utilising the paid to click type of advertisements, to earn profits.

Now i thought this has to be tested, so i impletemented a few different paid to click advertisements on my blogs to see how they go. It took me little over 10 minutes to change my blog templates and implement these advertisements.

So with the ads up and running i decided to continue posting as usual to see what happens. Well i can say that im not going to get rich quick. However i assume that the more traffic you have the more clicks you will get, and since my blogs are relatively new i didn’t have high hopes. But all in all it is a fun way to keep the bloging interesting.

The blogging revolution just seems to keep on getting bigger and bigger with Google and Yahoo releasing its on Blog search engine and others like Technorati which would be the most well known blog search engine. Technorati claims to be tracking 20.1 million sites, and if you view their top 100 blogs you will see that the topics which are being blogged about are endless and unique in every category you could think of.

For more information on blogs and how you can get one check out our site (ablenetdesign.com) or read my online marketing blog (ablenetdesign.blogspot.com) there will be more information on blogs posted in their as time goes on im sure of it.

Working on software review blog

Leading SEO Expert Aaron Matthew Wall Author of SEO Book Sued over Blogging Free Speech Issue.

Blogging has come a long way as it relates to becoming a part of mainstream media. Blogging has more recently been credited with breaking major news stories and influencing major political campaigns.

One of my favorite sources to read on current SEO developments is leading search engine marketer Aaron Matthew Wall. He has recently been commenting on a law suit from a company called Traffic Power.

Quite frankly I don’t know all the issues involved, but I know young Mr. Wall (only 25) to be a straight shooter on what works and doesn’t work in SEO work. People like Aaron are becoming personal brands online because of blogging.

This legal action is some what setting a standard on legal rights and actions brought against bloggers. The right of a blogger to express their opinions about businesses has caught the attention of the Wall Street Journal (obviously not owned by Aaron Wall).

I am a reader of SEO Book and have emailed Aaron Wall on occasion. I even have a review of his book on my site.

From Aaron’s blog I knew this was brewing for some time. Aaron will praise useful services and also tell others when something is a scam.

As a blogger it is hard to tell where to draw the line. There are so many rip-off traffic companies out there you feel obligated to tell your subscribers.

I don’t know all the issues in the Traffic Power law suit, however I think a person should be able to express their opinion about their business experiences and outlook online.

I see sites advertising and have even experienced some services telling you they will run your ad and get you millions of impressions. Then you discover their Alexa ranking is 3,500,000 and they are putting your ad in rotation with 16 other advertisers.

It would take them forever — and they still couldn’t get you a million impressions! They are just rip-offs and when you let others know to avoid these traffic fraud type companies they get mad and want to sue.

I am doing a lot of testing of different ways to drive lots of targeted traffic to my sites, but 60% of the companies I try are total rip-offs. Many of them I suspect generate traffic bots and not actual people. When we blog our readers expect us to have a personality and give them the inside scoop and our opinion on things. Legal action like this will really make our jobs more challenging to say the least.

Not only are companies trying to sue bloggers for their commentary, but they are also attempting to sue bloggers for feed back left by others on their blog. What is unbelievable about this law suit is Mr. Wall is not only being sued just for his remarks, but also for remarks left by others on his blog!

I think Aaron is courageous in taking a stand for the ability to express his opinion, and the right of his blog users to also state theirs. He is helping to keep the Internet a media of free speech.

I wish Aaron Wall well in his decision to not take his personal or critical commentary down on Traffic Power. He shouldn’t have to feel afraid to state his opinion on web marketing matters, even when some companies don’t approve of their reviews. These companies would do better improving their product and put less time into suing and other forms of intimidation.

Guide to Start Your Own Blog

Guide to Start Your Own Blog by yousaf FAYYAZ

Why start a blog? How to start a blog? These are the first question a person who likely to start blog asks, so I have decided to write it up here.

As Running a Blog hosting company myself these question were ask more frequently by people around the globe when I ask someone to come and start a blog with my company he/she asks why start a blog? I am not into internet business. Blogging is not only about business, it is every thing from daily event to sharing moments with your family friends loved ones; I quoted it in simple words:

“Start a blog because some things really can’t be said well in other media”

On page 150 of Hugh’s book he says:

“The advantage of blogging is that it will oblige you to live in the world of ideas and debates and to do so at the modern pace.” (Page 150, “In, But Not Of”)

Internet has no boundaries you can reach millions and millions of people by using simple software that is FREE, no popup ads, no hidden charges and you can even make some money from your blog. How can we start a blog that is FREE and even earn from it? the answer is simple the Blogger Team provides you the platform in just 1 minute your own blog is ready and you are preparing your first writing to be presented in front of millions and millions people.

Is that attracts you to start a blog? Signup before reading further.

Congratulations, you have prepared yourself for your first online presence you’ve got a blog up and going, I recommend that you pick a topic and kind of stick to it. A good way to start a blog is by referencing and quoting material from other blogs and Web sites you read and then commenting on them as you see fit. Eventually you will start to mix in longer essays that express a thought that you want to develop. Write about what interests you, not what you think your readers want. If you just try to guess what people want and write about that, you’ll get bored with writing. Follow the directions and I promised you will enjoy your blogging experience with Blogger Team.

When you write something interesting that you think someone would enjoy reading, feel free to point it out in an email. I’m not recommending SPAM, just an email to a few people you know that asks them to read what you’ve written and provide feedback. When people post encouraging comments on what you have written, gives you encourage and gear you up for the next blog entry if you receive some negative comments don’t look down, these comments will help you write even better.

I also recommend you to creating an “About” page to list biographical data and let people know who is the author of this blog. I hate going to blogs and not being able to find out something about the person writing. Being able to know the person, at least a little, is part of the blog experience for me.

Blogger Team will help you in each and every step, and leads you to never ending successful journey to blogger’s world.

In today’s society one never knows what may happen to your safety. Therefore you should follow some simple rules to help protect yourself from a possible situation that you could be harmed by. Now everyone knows that you can not protect yourself 100% of the time. But you can follow simple guidelines that will give you a fighting chance if something does go wrong.

1.Always stay alert to your surroundings. Know who is around you and what they may be doing in your area.

2.When leaving stores, work or home, look around, see who is nearby, look confident and the criminal will usually look for another target that is not paying attention.

3.Have your keys already out before you get to the car. Fighting with packages, kids and keys at the car is an invitation to distraction, then you become a likely target.

4.Don’t give blind trust to a stranger for any reason.

5.If you see something that doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t, go a different way to avoid the situation.

6.If it is suspicious to you, then report it to the police and have it checked out, don’t wait to be a victim.

7.Take a protection course for you and your family. There are a number of good ones out there. I recommend CDT™, Training For Life™ or a good martial arts program that you are interested in.

8.Keep doors locked when your home, keep the curtains closed so the criminal can not see what you have inside from the street.

9.Make sure your lighting is adequate around you home and in use.

10.Landscaping can be nice or it can hide a criminal, check it out and make necessary adjustments to eliminate hiding spots.

These are just a few ideas on how to keep you and your family safer in these troubles times. There are several other ways to get personal protection issues under control. But you have to know about them before you can plan for them.

There are several books and organizations out there to help you be safer, use them. Even your local police department can give you the right advice. You are ultimately responsible for your safety, think before you do and act accordingly with the information you gather.

Children are the most important thing we have and yet we very seldom train them on how to be safe while they are out in the public eye. You need to start training your children to be safe before they become a victim and you need this also. Waiting to become a victim and then saying you should do something is asking for more trouble than you need.

www.cdt-traiing.com and www.trainingforlife.tv will help give you some information on training to keep you safe, martial arts can be found in your local phone book. Take action now or become a victim and pay the price, it is up to you and know one else as to if you become safer or not!

Building Online Communities

When you’re thinking of starting a website, you have a few problems. Where will you get content from? How do you keep visitors coming back? When you make your website an online community, though, you can solve all these problems at a stroke.

The Advantages of Communities.

On a community website, people come there mainly to communicate with the other visitors – your role is to set up the software that makes this possible, handling the technical side of things. Once your visitors make friends and find that people posting give them useful information (or just amusing writing), they will keep coming back, day after day, often even making time for it when they really ought to be doing something else. Even better, you don’t have to pay anyone to produce content, because the members of your community are producing more content for each other than you could ever hope to commission commercially. The only rewards they ask for are the replies they get from other members.

Altogether, this adds up to an attractive proposition. Even better is the fact that the owners of online communities tend to quickly acquire cult leader-like status thanks to their ability to make the final decision when it comes to deciding who can be part of the community and who can’t. Members don’t even slightly resent supporting them, and will donate over and over again to make the website better – not only will they tolerate ads, but they’ll click on them more in an effort to support you. There are forums out there that run entirely on community contributions: the Something Awful community forums and Metafilter community weblog, for example, charge $10 and $5 respectively per membership, and yet both have tens of thousands of members.

What You Need for Your Community.

Of course, thousands of members don’t just appear overnight. To get people to start coming and writing in the hope of getting a response, you need to give them a reason to come to your website in the first place.

In many cases, your software will be what differentiates you. You’re likely to be competing with other, similar community websites, and providing better features than the next guy can drive a surprising number of visitors to your website. If you listen to and act on every request, you can’t do far wrong – find out the visitors’ ideal features, and go out of your way to provide them, whatever they might be.

Another excellent way to build initial traffic to your site is to provide some data that’s rare or difficult to get elsewhere, or to organise data in a way that will be especially useful to a certain community. You could, for example, compile live stock price data in a way relevant to a certain business sector, or organise TV listings so that they show all the times a certain show can be seen, whatever channel it’s on. If you can find something unique, people will flock to it and love it.

Advertising a Community Website.

One thing to note about this kind of website is that they don’t respond well to traditional promotion – few people will respond positively to an ad asking them to join a community. Why should they write for you when you’re obviously only in it for commercial gain? Instead, you should make sure your community relates to something you have a genuine interest in, and then promote it casually in other relevant communities. An ideal situation is one where the owner of an existing website doesn’t have the time for it any more, and you can move their community over to your site – this kind of ‘evacuation’ can give your site a thriving community overnight.

Once you’ve got a community, of course, don’t underestimate how much promotion its members will do themselves: they will link it from everywhere they get a chance to put links, email things from it to friends, show it to people they know and get them to join – the possibilities are endless. If you care for your community properly, it will pay you back many times over.

Whether your blog is of a personal or business nature, add a personal tone when posting. Instead of just listing articles on your blog, write as if youre sitting across from your readers and enjoying a coffee with them.

Tell your readers about whats going on in your business rather than simply advertising to them. Add your own voice which will, in turn, become the new voice of your business. Remember, blogs are interactive. Theyre a chance for you to reach people in a more personal and impactful way than regular static web pages.
